Global law firm McDermott Will & Emery is pleased to announce that H. Peter Haveles, Jr. has joined the Firm as a Litigation partner based in the New York office, expanding capabilities for clients across two major priority industries.
“We are thrilled to once again expand and diversify our Litigation capabilities,” said David Rosenbloom, global head of McDermott’s Litigation Practice Group. “Peter brings our clients a deep understanding of trial and dispute resolution and is also well-versed in litigation for real estate clients and participants in the finance markets, complementing our expanded real estate finance practice and more broadly serving our financial institution and private equity clients.”
Peter acts for clients in the financial services sector with a focus on civil litigation, investigations and enforcement actions pursued by regulatory agencies and major exchanges arising out of US and foreign securities, options, futures, derivatives, capital markets and asset-backed transactions.
Peter also has extensive experience in disputes involving antitrust claims, bankruptcy and restructuring matters and represents financial institutions, corporations and individuals in a broad range of general litigation. His trial experience spans federal district and bankruptcy courts, state courts, arbitration panels and several appellate courts, including in California and New York.
“Peter’s talents represent another step in achieving McDermott’s strategy to provide well-regarded workout specialists for services for our real estate developer and lender clients,” noted Jeffrey Steiner, global head of the Firm’s Real Estate Finance Practice.

Peter’s arrival follows steady growth for the Firm’s Litigation Practice Group over the past year with team additions in New York, Miami, Delaware and London.
Prior to joining McDermott, Peter was a partner at Pepper Hamilton LLP.
Peter holds a JD from Boston University (magna cum laude) School of Law, where he was editor of Boston University Law Review. He pursued post-graduate studies at the University College of Wales and earned an AB from Harvard University (cum laude)
