Peerfit Raises $400,000 Funding from Florida Funders

11/21/16

Florida Funders has completed a $400,000 investment in Peerfit, a Tampa-based health technology company that provides a digital platform for employers to offer employees health and fitness benefits. Through its online investing platform, Tampa-based Florida Funders makes investing easier for accredited investors and capital more accessible to early-stage Florida companies.

Through Peerfit, companies offer credits to their employees to use to enroll in a variety of fitness classes offered by a network of fitness studios across the country.

This model improves employee wellness, reduces employees’ fitness expenses, increases fitness studios’ traffic and revenue, and provides employers and insurance companies with improved efficiency and utilization of wellness solutions.

Florida Funders’ investment and support was pivotal to Peerfit’s growth from a Florida company to a nationwide provider.

“The collective knowledge, expertise and leveraged network from Florida Funders helped us grow in a way that a traditional investor cannot,” said Ed Buckley, CEO of Tampa-based Peerfit. “Our Florida Funders investors will offer advice on something that we’re working on, or provide introductions to subject matter experts as we take on new projects.”

The capital raised will allow the company to expand and shorten the timeline to deliver its products in order to meet new opportunities and expand on a national scale.

“Peerfit’s rapid growth and significant partnerships with national insurance providers, such as Aetna, Cigna and United Healthcare, were clear signs that the company was on the right track,” said Florida Funders’ CEO Marc Blumenthal. “We’re very impressed by the strides Peerfit has made so far, and we’re looking forward to staying involved with the company as they execute plans facilitated by this round of funding.”

Started by University of Florida students and graduates in 2011, Peerfit was only active in Florida until last year. Now the company has more than 10,000 people in eight states using the platform to access a nationwide network of boutique fitness studios and gyms.
