Techstars Leads $4.8M Series B for Aunt Bertha

Aunt Bertha Inc., the maker of a social services search and referral platform, has completed a $4.8 million Series B round of financing.

The Austin company disclosed that the capital will enable it increase its market share by growing the number of sales, marketing and product workers. It raised the capital from 11 investors, according to a Tuesday filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.

Investors included Techstars Ventures. As part of the deal, Techstars Ventures Partner Jason Seats has joined Aunt Bertha’s board, according to a company statement.

Aunt Bertha, which was founded in 2010 by Erine Gray, operates a website designed to connect users to food, health care, housing and educational programs available within a particular ZIP code. It employs 20 workers.

In late 2013, Aunt Bertha reported raising $955,000 of a planned $1 million financing from 11 investors, according to a regulatory filing.

Gray, the company’s CEO, was previously a director of Virginia-based Maximus Inc. (NYSE: MMS), which provides business process services to government health and human services agencies under its mission of “helping government serve the people,” according to his online profile and the Maximus website.
