VCU Charged Governor's Office $300 An Hour For Mediator On Dominion Bill

A mediator called in by Gov. Ralph Northam to help negotiate with major players on a controversial electricity rate bill didn’t come cheap.

Virginia Commonwealth University charged the governor’s office $300 per hour for 43 hours of work in January and February.

The bill came to $12,900 for services of Mark Rubin of VCU’s Virginia Center for Consensus Building to help Northam, Dominion Energy and other stakeholders come to the table on legislation that would change how the state regulates Dominion and Appalachian Power Co., Virginia’s two large energy monopolies.

Brian Coy, a spokesman for Northam, said Rubin’s work was critical.
