Women United Honors Mindy Holman During Annual Gala

2/25/18

Mindy Holman, chairman of Holman Enterprises, will be presented with the 2018 Women United Award during United Way of Greater Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey's (UWGPSNJ) annual Women United Gala at the Crystal Tea Room in Philadelphia on March 21, 2018. This award is presented annually to a female leader who has given her time, talent and resources to support the work of United Way throughout the region.

"In all that she does, Mindy serves as an exceptional leader. As a former Board chair and a key volunteer in many of our strategic initiatives, as well as a mentor for our youth and a champion for our region, she is devoted, passionate and truly engaged in our work to end intergenerational poverty," said Charisse Lillie, president of CRL Consulting, LLC and co-chair of the Women United Gala Host Committee. "We couldn't be more pleased to recognize Mindy's outstanding commitment to helping others reach their full potential."

Mindy is the third generation of Holman leadership and upholds an uncompromising dedication to customer service and community involvement—values set forth by her grandfather when he opened his first automotive dealership in 1924. She joined Holman in 1986 as a management trainee and since then has served in several management roles before becoming vice chair in 1994, president in 2002, CEO in 2004, and chairman in 2015. In this role, she oversees Holman's six different lines of business.

"It's humbling to join such an outstanding group of women who are dedicated to empowering and investing in the lives of others— especially the Girls Today, Leaders Tomorrow program, which gives our young women the tools they need to build a brighter future," Holman said. "I hope this honor can serve as inspiration for all to step up and serve others with purpose and passion."

The annual Gala supports Girls Today, Leaders Tomorrow (GTLT), Women United's signature program which helps girls in grades 7 through 12 attending schools in underserved communities stay on track to graduate high school prepared for college and career. Since inception, more than $5 million has been raised to support GTLT. More information can be found at UnitedForImpact.org/GTLT.

Additionally, Women United presents the Next Generation Leader Award to honor a female leader under 35 who has not only accomplished remarkable professional success, but also shares a deep commitment to give, advocate and volunteer. Daphne Owen, M.D. a resident at Penn Medicine, was selected for her exemplary volunteerism and outstanding professional success. Owen is a long-time volunteer and current staff member at Puentes de Salud, a health and wellness center serving Philadelphia's Latino immigrant population. She oversees the organization's medical operations, and she has expanded the after school education program and initiated a health education program for teens and families.

The Women United Gala is presented by Independence Blue Cross. The event begins at 5:00 p.m., followed by dinner and an award presentation emceed by NBC10 news anchor Tracy Davidson at 6:30 p.m. Additional sponsors of the 2018 Women's Leadership Initiative Gala include AmerisourceBergen, Enterprise Holdings Comcast, NBC10, Telemundo62, and Comcast Spectacor, Deloitte LLP, Holman Enterprises, Morgan Lewis & Bockius LLP, Parker McCay P.A. and Penn Mutual Life Insurance Company.
