UMBC will open its brand new arena with a men's basketball game against Vermont at 4 p.m. Feb. 3, a source with direct knowledge of the plans told PressBox.
UMBC Event Center will be the new home of the school's men's and women's basketball teams as well as the women's volleyball team. The arena (which can hold up to 6,000 people) will also host concerts and events. Two concerts are already scheduled for the arena in March -- one featuring the bands A Day To Remember and Papa Roach, the other starring R&B legends Maze featuring Frankie Beverly.
The Event Center replaces the Retriever Activities Center (or RAC Arena) as the new home of the school's indoor sports teams. The final men's basketball game at the RAC is scheduled for 1 p.m. Jan. 27 against Maine.
