Baltimore Ravens Promote Don 'Wink' Martindale To Defensive Coordinator

By Bo Smolka, PRESSBOX

The Ravens have promoted linebackers coach Don "Wink" Martindale to defensive coordinator, once again staying in-house to fill the top defensive coaching position.

Martindale, 54, is entering his seventh season with the Ravens and takes over the defensive coordinator role from Dean Pees, who announced his retirement Jan. 1.

Martindale served as the Ravens' inside linebackers coach from 2012-2015 and has been the linebackers coach for the past two years. Under Martindale's direction, C.J. Mosley has been named to the Pro Bowl three times in his four seasons, and Martindale was instrumental in the development of Matthew Judon and undrafted linebackers Zachary Orr and Patrick Onwuasor, both of whom became starters.
