Moore & Van Allen PLLC is pleased to announce that Elizabeth Applegate Dieck, former Director of Environmental Affairs for the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC), has joined the firm’s Charleston office Environmental team as a member.

Dieck’s environmental law practice includes navigating the complex web of environmental regulations, obtaining permits, compliance counseling, and helping clients to resolve or avoid environmental enforcement issues. She has worked closely with the Environmental Protection Agency, the Army Corps of Engineers, and other state and federal regulators, as well as numerous industry and environmental groups. Dieck also handles environmental litigation, bringing and defending challenges to permitting and enforcement decisions before government agencies and the S.C. Administrative Law Court. She has handled appeals before the S.C. Court of Appeals and the S.C. Supreme Court.

In her role as Director of Environmental Affairs for DHEC, Dieck oversaw the Office of Environmental Quality Control and the Office of Ocean and Coastal Resource Management. She was responsible for all permitting, compliance and enforcement for the state’s environmental programs. Dieck also previously served as chief counsel for DHEC’s Office of Ocean and Coastal Resource Management, where she advised staff on permitting and enforcement issues across South Carolina’s eight coastal counties.
