Davidson-based Abaci Capital Raises $5.1M

11/14/17

A money manager in Davidson, North Carolina, has raised $5.1 million in a hedge fund, according to a filing Tuesday with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

Brian Fletcher is the manager of Abaci Capital, L.P., a behavioral finance hedge fund that tracks crowd psychological extremes and bets against their continuation.

The money was raised by 18 investors. It was raised in the form of equity and pooled investment fund interests.

The minimum investment accepted from any outside investor is $250,000.

Fletcher is also a senior research analyst and manages the Strategic Miners Portfolio, a miner’s portfolio designed for individual and institutional investors, for Time Price Analysis.

Fletcher was the former co-chief executive officer of Cox Technologies Inc., a producer and distributor of graphic and electronic transit temperature recording instruments.

Chief Investment Officer Ken Goldberg was also listed on the filing.

Goldberg has been CIO of Abaci Capital since 2012. He is also the founder of TradeWithWaves Inc., a provider of real-time analysis on stocks, bonds, commodity markets and Bitcoins.

Companies relying on a Reg D exemption do not have to register their offering of securities with the SEC, but they must file what’s known as a Form D electronically with the SEC after they first sell their securities.
