With a little more than eight minutes to play in the first half between Maryland and Maryland Eastern Shore Nov. 12, Terps point guard Anthony Cowan rebounded a missed 3-pointer by forward Tyler Jones and immediately started up the court. The Hawks hustled back, but Cowan sprinted through all five defenders en route to the basket, faking with his right hand and finishing with his left.
It gave Maryland a 13-point lead, and the Terps went on to win, 96-43, to move to 2-0 on the season. Cowan's rebound and 90-foot drive was part of a 16-point, nine-rebound effort and emblematic of the pace he set for Maryland all game, particularly when the Terps finished the first half on a 21-5 run.
"My teammates did a really good job of boxing out tonight. The rebounds kind of fell in my hand, and I was able just to push the break," Cowan said. "But I think we've been a lot faster. I think Kevin [Huerter's] been pushing the ball well. I think Justin [Jackson's] starting to push the ball well. I think that makes us a lot faster team and hopefully they can continue to do that."
