SHIFT, a Baltimore-based management consulting and recruiting company, announced today that Evan Lutz, Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Hungry Harvest, has joined SHIFT Society, one of its core businesses. Hungry Harvest is a produce delivery company on a mission to end food waste and hunger, and was featured on Shark Tank in 2015.

SHIFT Society is the world’s only mission-driven, localized, invite-only entrepreneurial membership community. The organization is committed to creating meaningful, sustainable change in communities and solving issues facing the world. Members seek transformation to benefit their communities, businesses, and families.

“Evan has an incredible entrepreneurial spirit and drive to make our community better,” said Joe Mechlinski, founder and CEO of SHIFT. “He embodies what SHIFT Society was intended to do – connect people who are responsible for creating purposeful change through passion, dedication, and commitment.”

Lutz envisioned the idea for Hungry Harvest in the basement of his dorm room at the University of Maryland. He reached out to farmers and wholesalers to recover their surplus, or cosmetically imperfect, produce to deliver it to subscribers every week at an affordable price. For each box of produce sold, the company donates or subsidizes produce to fight hunger in local communities. Lutz went on to bring his idea to Shark Tank, and made a deal with investor Robert Herjavec. The company has now expanded its services to other states, delivering across Maryland, Virginia, Pennsylvania, Florida and New Jersey.

Lutz also had the opportunity to pitch Hungry Harvest at Betamore’s third annual Beta City live venture capital pitch competition to a panel of judges including Mayor Catherine Pugh. Hungry Harvest took home the grand prize of $25,000 sponsored by Brown Advisory.

Lutz has previous work experience at prominent Baltimore companies, including Under Armour and the National Aquarium. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Business from The University of Maryland in 2014.
