Fort Lauderdale Country Club Staff Members Honored by the South Florida Section of the Professional Golfers’ Association of America

12/10/17

The Fort Lauderdale Country Club is proud to have two staff members honored by the South Florida Section of the Professional Golfers’ Association of America this year. The Country Club’s General Manager, Michael O’Brien, will be inducted into the Hall of Fame, and PGA Director of Golf Mark VanDyck has been named the “2017 South Florida PGA Golf Professional of the Year.”

O’Brien and VanDyck will be recognized at the South Florida PGA Annual Awards and Hall of Fame Dinner supported by Discover Global Network on Monday, November 13, 2017 at Parkland Golf and Country Club (10001 Old Club Rd., Parkland, FL 33076).

“I am honored to be inducted into the South Florida PGA Hall of Fame,” said O’Brien. “My time at the Fort Lauderdale Country Club for the past 23 years has been invaluable to my golfing career and has helped me form a deeper appreciation for my community.”

Since 1995 O’Brien has served at one time as Membership Chairman, Awards Chairman, Sponsorship Chairman and President of the Southern Chapter PGA. Today he serves as Vice President of the Foundation Board, which administrates many of the philanthropic programs of the PGA.

Essentially, induction into the Hall of Fame is recognition for a body of work. When one becomes a PGA member, they are accepting the responsibility of becoming a mentor and embody the ability to share what life has taught them. PGA members are gracious in sharing life lessons with others and dedicate their time and capabilities so those attributes can help someone or something improve.

The “Golf Professional of the Year” award is the highest honor a PGA Professional can receive, as he or she is recognized for overall performance, level of service to the Association, leadership, image and the ability to inspire fellow professionals and promote the game of golf.

“Being chosen as Golf Professional of the Year is truly humbling,” said VanDyck, who has been at the Fort Lauderdale Country Club for 20 years. “I would not be here without the support of my fellow golf professionals.”

The South Florida Section of the PGA of America is an association of golf professionals with a mission to promote interest, participation and enjoyment in the game of golf; establish and maintain professional standards or practice; and enhance the well-being of golf professionals.
