NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Haug Partners LLP today announced that former PTAB trial judge, Brian P. Murphy, has joined the firm as a partner to chair its Post Grant Review practice group.

Brian Murphy joined the PTAB in 2013 and has been a PTAB Leadership Team member since 2014. In that capacity he supervised a team of Administrative Patent Law judges. He has presided over nearly 200 AIA post grant trials (IPR, CBM, and PGR proceedings) and drafted more than 60 substantive decisions. In private practice before becoming an APJ, Brian practiced at the law firms of Hopgood Calimafde and Morgan Lewis and he focused on pharmaceuticals, life sciences, and biomedical device patent litigation and counseling.

Managing Partner Ed Haug commented, “Brian is a highly-accomplished trial lawyer with an impressive track record in private practice and also as a Judge for the PTAB. He brings added breadth and experience to Haug Partners, has the trust of judges, CEOs and fellow litigators and is a mentor to many who rely on his skill and judgment to help solve their most pressing challenges. We are delighted to have a lawyer of Brian’s experience and stature join our firm.”

“Haug Partners has a long tradition of success representing life science, pharmaceutical and technology companies,” said Murphy. “The partners are winners in every way, and they win for their clients in every arena - the district courts, Patent and Trademark Office, FDA, ITC, FTC, and at the negotiating table. I couldn’t be more pleased to have the opportunity to chair a PTAB Post Grant Review practice at such a thriving, dynamic, and collegial firm,” he remarked.
