Virginia's Economic Development Partnership Pushes To Address Faults, Accelerate Economic Growth

Faced with a daunting challenge to accelerate the state’s economic growth, the Virginia Economic Development Partnership is getting its house in order after a scathing report by a legislative watchdog agency last fall.

The partnership’s reconstituted board of directors, portrayed by the Joint Legislative Audit and Review Commission as out of the loop in overseeing the independent state authority, moved Wednesday to hire the Richmond office of Dixon Hughes Goodman, a Charlotte, N.C.-based accounting firm, to act as its risk-assessment auditor.

The revamped leadership of the state’s principal economic development agency also assured the board that VEDP is on track to address more than two dozen recommendations made by JLARC to improve the administration and board oversight of the operation.
