Respected medical oncologist and researcher Alexandria Phan, MD, has joined Cancer Treatment Centers of America® (CTCA), where she serves as the Gastrointestinal Malignancies Institute Leader with CTCA® Medicine & Science and medical director of the Gastrointestinal Center at CTCA at Southeastern Regional Medical Center in Newnan, Ga. She focuses on personalized treatment plans for patients with neuroendocrine and endocrine cancers as well as gastrointestinal system malignancies.

Dr. Phan is board certified in hematology, medical oncology and internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine. On the research front, her studies are published in numerous peer-reviewed journals, including The Lancet Oncology, The New England Journal of Medicine and The Journal of Gastrointestinal Oncology. She has written more than 50 articles, abstracts and book chapters.

Before joining CTCA, Dr. Phan developed a specialty oncology clinical practice at Houston Methodist Cancer Center and served as a professor and fellowship program director. In her practice, she served gastrointestinal cancer patients and created multidisciplinary teams focused in various disease sites within GI and rare malignancies, such as pancreaticobiliary, liver, esophageal, gastric/stomach, gastroesophageal junction, anal and colorectal cancers. She also had particular interest in treating patients with endocrine and rare neoplasms, including paraganglimas, pheochromocytomas, carcinomas and those with cancers in the thyroid, parathyroid and adrenal glands.

Prior to her role as a professor at Houston Methodist Cancer Center, Dr. Phan spent more than 10 years in clinical practice and worked as an associate professor for the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center’s GI Medical Oncology Department.

Dr. Phan earned her Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of California Irvine, followed by residency training in internal medicine at Baylor College of Medicine. She completed her fellowship training in hematology at Baylor College of Medicine and medical oncology at the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston.

Dr. Phan is a member of several organizations including the American Cancer Society of Clinical Oncology, the American Society of Hematology, the American Association of Clinical Research, the European Society of Clinical Oncology, the North American Neuroendocrine Tumor Society and National Cancer Institute Neuroendocrine Advisory Task Force.
