Eversheds Sutherland is pleased to announce that Associate Raymond A. Ramirez has been recognized with the 2017 American Bar Association (ABA) On the Rise – Top 40 Young Lawyer Award.
Selected from a pool of nominations, the Top 40 Young Lawyer Award honors lawyers who exemplify a broad range of high achievement, innovation, vision, leadership, and legal and community service.

At Eversheds Sutherland, Mr. Ramirez represents clients in matters related to derivatives and structured products. He advises government-sponsored enterprises, insurance companies, publicly traded commodity funds, energy companies and electric cooperatives that are derivatives end-users with respect to derivatives trading and compliance with the Commodity Exchange Act (CEA) and Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) regulations. In particular, Mr. Ramirez counsels clients on how they may be impacted by the new regulatory regime imposed on the over-the-counter derivatives market by the Dodd-Frank Act and assists them in negotiating documentation and developing internal policies and procedures to ensure compliance with the new requirements.
A member of the firm’s Hiring Committee and the Diversity and Inclusion Committee, Mr. Ramirez also participates in various Bar activities and has an active pro bono practice that includes the representation of two inner city charter schools in Washington DC.
In addition to his legal practice, Mr. Ramirez serves as president of Region V of the Hispanic National Bar Association (HNBA), where he works to ensure the execution of the HNBA’s local, regional and national programs by working with the HNBA Board of Governors and HNBA affiliate organizations. Prior to entering the legal field, Mr. Ramirez was a New York City public school teacher.
