Mia Yugo has joined the Virginia law firm of Gentry Locke as an associate in the Roanoke office, where she will work with the Criminal & Government Investigations Group on white-collar criminal defense matters in federal courts.

Yugo joins the firm after serving as a law clerk for a general practice firm in Clearwater, Florida, handling both criminal and civil matters; working extensively on qui tam whistleblowing issues focusing on taxpayer fraud and false claims; and serving as a legal intern for Liberty University’s Office of Legal Affairs.

Yugo graduated from University of Toronto, Trinity College, where she received her Hon. B.A., with high distinction. She graduated from the Liberty University School of Law with a J.D. cum laude. During law school, Yugo was editor-in-chief of theLegal Journal and was the articles and book reviews editor on Law Review.

Yugo is licensed to practice law in New York, is a member of the New York State Bar Association Young Lawyers Section, and is a member of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (NACDL).

Outside of work, Yugo coaches teams preparing to compete in the ABA Regional Negotiations Tournament and National Basketball Negotiation Competition. She has won awards for her work, and was named champion of the NBA National Basketball Negotiation Competition of the Fordham Sports Law Forum, and was a finalist in the ABA Regional Negotiation Competition and World Negotiation Competition representing Team USA. She is also an award-winning playwright who speaks several languages and is passionate about opera, theatre, and tennis.
