The Maryland Independent College and University Association (MICUA) Board of Trustees elected Dr. Roger Casey, President of McDaniel College, to serve as Chair of the Board for a second two year term beginning July 1, 2017. Dr. Casey was unanimously elected by the Board — which includes the presidents of its 15 member institutions — to continue to lead the organization in implementing its strategic objectives. “Dr. Casey is a remarkably effective leader,” said Tina Bjarekull, President of MICUA. “He is engaged, astute, and committed. During these uncertain times, the Board voted for steady, proven leadership.”

In addition to his leadership of MICUA, Dr. Casey is a member of the Board of Directors and sits on the Student Financial-Aid Committee of the National Association of Independent Colleges and Universities (NAICU). He also serves on a Steering Committee for the Council of Independent Colleges (CIC). He has earned a national reputation for expanding college access through targeted partnerships and a commitment to need-based student aid.

The Board elected Dr. Andrea Chapdelaine, President of Hood College, as Vice Chair of the Board and Chair of the Budget Committee. Dr. Chapdelaine became Hood College’s 11th President in 2015 after more than two decades of experience in higher education. Under the leadership of Dr. Chapdelaine, Hood College has launched several new undergraduate and graduate programs to prepare students for the challenges of the 21st century.

Other officers elected by the Board include Dr. Weymouth Spence, President of Washington Adventist University, who will serve as Secretary-Treasurer of the Board, and Dr. Marylou Yam, President of Notre Dame of Maryland University, who will serve as Chair of the Capital Projects Committee.
