Renowned Architecture Firm Tabanlioglu Architects Wins Multiple Awards At MIPIM 2017

Award-winning global architectural practice takes home four awards from annual international property conference, including overall winner of residential scheme in New York

Tabanlioglu Architects, a renowned Turkish-based international architecture firm, has been named the recipient of four awards at the 28th annual MIPIM – the international property market held from March 14 to 17, 2017 at the Grand Palais in Cannes, France. The Beyazit State Library was named winner of the Special Jury Award at the annual MIPIM Awards competition. The additional three awards announced at the MIPIM Architectural Review Future Project Awards included Tabanlioglu Architects being named overall winner of the AR Future Projects for its residential scheme in New York,118 East 59th Street Residences, which was also the winner in the Residential category, and the Baksi Husame Koklu Women's Community Center in the Civic and Community category.

Recipient of the Special Jury Award at the MIPIM Awards, the Beyazit State Library located on Beyazit Squareis the oldest and largest library in Istanbul. Tabanlioglu Architects meticulously restored the library while maintaining the splendor of its historical significance. The Beyazit State Library has received a number of major recognitions including the World Architecture Festival Award for the Old and New Category, American Architecture Prize in the Restoration & Renovation Category, as well as the winner in the Public Sector category for the World Interiors News Awards. The Library is selected as one of the 40 finalist projects for the 2017 EU Prize for Contemporary Architecture, Mies Van Der Rohe Award.

Tabanlioglu Architects was named overall winner for the MIPIM Architectural Review Future Project Awards’ residential category forits 118 East 59th Street Residences development. The project is an Upper East Side luxury condominium building in New York City that was designed to create a niche for the neighborhood’s residential market by offering high-end and compact serviced apartments. The building’s design features a façade reminiscent of a beehive-like pattern with enlarged modules that provide the apartment units with greater openings to skyline views as the building rises. Baksi Husame Koklu Women's Community Center, winner of the Civic and Community category, is a Bayburt-based community center in Turkey that was designed with the intent to provide resources and support for different generations of women. A unique design element of the project is the steep roof, which is stylistically embedded and divides the overall structure into smaller volumes in harmony with the surrounding environment.

Established in 1991, the MIPIM Awards is an internationally-renowned real estate competition at the annual MIPIM conference. The competition recognizes the most outstanding and accomplished projects, completed or yet to be built, worldwide. MIPIM Awards winners are chosen by a combination of the MIPIM delegates and the international jury, each group representing 50% of the final vote. Now in its 16th year, the MIPIM Architectural Review Future Project Awards honors architectural excellence in unbuilt or incomplete projects around the globe selected across 11 categories.
