The Maryland Chapter of the Association for Corporate Growth "ACG," a global organization focused on driving middle-market growth, is pleased to announce the finalists for the 12th annual Deal of the Year Award. South Moon Under Recapitalization with JPB Partners & New Spring Capital Partners is one of the five finalists.
South Moon Under began as a small surf shack in Ocean City, Maryland in the summer of 1968. Over the next 48 years, under the leadership of Frank Gunion, South Moon Under has evolved into a sophisticated, upscale women's clothing retailer with 24 locations in 6 states and over 500 employees (over 50% of whom are located in Maryland).
Mr. Gunion selected JPB Capital Partners (JPB) as his partner based on its track record of investing in successful regional brands and growing them to be nationally recognized. JPB, in turn, assembled a team of Mid-Atlantic firms to support closing the transaction and supporting on-going operations. That team included New Spring Capital Partners, Womble Carlyle, M&T Bank and RSM US LLP.

Already a well-recognized brand in the Mid-Atlantic region, the recapitalization of South Moon Under, led by JPB, has positioned South Moon Under for additional growth while retaining their corporate headquarters in Annapolis, MD. The vision for South Moon Under is to grow its store presence with an emphasis on expansion to the Southeastern US, increase its private label offerings, and improve its eCommerce capabilities.
The Deal of the Year recognizes and honors business transactions, including mergers and acquisitions, financings, strategic alliances and IPOs, that have impacted our region. In addition, the annual award highlights those companies and individuals who were successful with a transaction in their pursuit of corporate growth between January 1, 2016 and December 31, 2016.
