SECU Offers Two Scholarship Programs To Members And Seton-Keough High School Graduating Seniors

2/2/17

SECU – Maryland’s largest credit union – is offering two scholarship programs this spring.

SECU’s State Employee Scholarship Program makes scholarships available to Maryland State employees and their immediate family members who plan to attend college, graduate school, or trade school in the fall of 2017.

In addition, SECU will once again, through the Marge Kenney Seton-Keough Scholarship, award five $1,000 scholarships to graduating seniors from Seton Keough High School, which is scheduled to close at the end of the current academic year.

“SECU has remained committed to supporting our communities and members in various ways, including financial education and scholarship programs, like these,” says Carmen David Mirabile, Assistant Vice President of Marketing at SECU.

Mirabile notes that through the State Employee Scholarship Program, SECU has given more than $300,000 in scholarships to SECU members in the 10 years the program has been in place. “While we serve all Marylanders who are eligible, not just state employees, we have always had a special relationship with them, and this program is one way we recognize that relationship.”

To be eligible for SECU’s State Employee Scholarship Program, applicants must be Maryland State employees or members of the immediate families of Maryland State employees. Winners must be enrolled or accepted into a college, university, trade, or technical school. Twelfth graders who plan to attend college next fall are also eligible.

As in past years, scholarship amounts in 2017 will vary and will be based on submission of a graded essay or video. This year, applicants will be required to submit a 500-750 word essay or a two-minute video that describes an individual who embodies one of SECU’s core values (service, education, commitment, and understanding) and has been uniquely influential in the applicant’s life.

Eligibility for the Marge Kenney Seton Keogh Scholarships – named in honor of Marge Kenney, a former teacher and lifelong ambassador for Seton Keogh High School – is open to graduating seniors at the school who plan to attend a four-year college or community college in the fall of 2017. Applicants are required to submit a 500-750 word essay or a two-minute video that describes the impact attending college will have on the applicant’s future.

SECU’s Marketing Department must receive all materials for either the State Employee Scholarship or the Marge Kenney Seton Keogh Scholarship no later than 11:59 p.m. on March 31, 2017.
